Childish Gambino – Royalty (Mixtape)

Following the release of his Camp LP last year, Childish Gambino has released his new mixtape, Royalty. Gambino really felxed his networking muscles with features from SchoolBoy Q, Chance The Rapper, Ghostface Killah, Nipsey Hussle, Danny Brown, Bun B, Blake Griffin, Tina Fey and many more. Needless to say, Royalty is a must download.

Some of Childish Gambino’s best lines from the mixtape can be foundhere.

Angel Haze – New York

At the ripe age of 20, Angel Haze is beginning to make a name for herself as a lady emcee. This Native American is an army brat. Born originally in Michigan, she lived in several places throughout her life. She began writing at the age of 11, but did not start rapping until 16.

She claims “I couldn’t listen to a hip-hop song without someone telling me I was going to burn in hell until I was 16 years old.” Coming from a formally religious family, it was a struggle for her to express herself. Thank god she found her voice.

It’s almost impossible not to be compared to Nicki Minaj as a female rapper. It sounds so foreign to us hearing a woman spit harsh words and non- melodic sounds. For that reason, we only have a few women to compair other female rappers to. Haze’s voice does sound like Nicki, and the whip you hear every time she swears is similar to Nicki. However unlike Minaj, Haze has talent. She’s good. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of her before, and I strongly suggest you take a listen. With a perfect rapping voice, flow, and lyrics Haze is a bombshell.

DJ Bahler & F.L.P – XOXO (The Glitch Mob vs The Weeknd Mixtape)

DJ Bahler and F.L.P. have created a mashup unbelievable mixtape featuring the Weeknd and The Glitch Mob. The word mashup doesn’t do this collaboration justice. Abel’s unique and perfect voice with the nasty beats from Glitch Mob form a project you do not want to miss. “With You” is a personal favorite, but overall this is another great addition to the iTunes collection.

Moufy – The Preparation

Boston local upcoming rapper Moufy just released his newest project, The Preparation. Repping Boston heavily, the Star Gang founder impresses after his previously successful mixtape, Boston Lights which was one of my favorites from 2011. The GMAD sponsored project is a must download and shows the artist’s versatile skills. He comes back stronger than ever with his meaningful lyrics, catchy hooks, and strong beats, a true combination for success. Watch out for Moufy in the future as he is sure to blow up past a local artist into the hip-hop universe. Here were a few of my favorites but like I said, the entire thing is very good and can be downloaded at Datpiff here.

Azad Right – The Time Is Right

Azid Right – “My story is something that people should know about. Hip-Hop culture has grown so much and I’m living proof. Ten years ago, an Iranian-American rapper was an impossible career choice. In 2011, I plan to make it my reality.”

Azad is truly beginning to make his dreams a reality with his latest release The Time Is Right. In addition to being a rapper, he is also a trained pianist and violinist and is the son of a divorced-blind poet. He’s the complete package so I suggest downloading the whole mixtape. Every song is enjoyable.

Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable (Mixtape)

Logic’s newest installment, Young Sinatra: Undeniable, is the best mixtape of the year. Logic really honed his skill on this mixtape and truly magnified his talent as a rapper. With the influx of young rappers entering the game, Logic is quickly beating out all of the contenders and blasting his way to the top.

His past made him the rapper he is today– a very driven, hardworking individual. Logic, born Robert Bryson Hall II, left home at 17 and has supported himself ever since. His father was never in his life, but when he got older he did get a chance to finally meet him. Instead of having ill feelings, Logic said, “life is too short to stay angry and sometimes you have to keep the past in the past and look forward.” He was able to forget and they currently sustain a relationship. Another interesting aspect of Logic is, he doesn’t have a huge friend circle. Instead of partying and messing around like most rappers, he worked nearly 18 hours a day. His regular day consisted of waking up, working the morning shift, having a two hour break where he wrote music (his first mixtape), went to his night job, slept and repeat. Listening to his last mixtape, you would think he was a full time musician.

However, who Logic is can be understand through his music. Undeniable starts off with the song “Inception,” a strong opener going in over the movie’s recognizable beat. Going through the rest, there are tracks that just show his raw lyrical talent “Dead Presidents III,” “No Biggie,” “Disgusting,” “Young Sinatra III,” and “All Sinatra Evertyhing.” Showing his versatility, Logic also has a few mainstream songs that still show his lyrical power such as “Numbers,” “The Spotlight,” and “Tic Tac Toe.” One of my personal favorites is “Do Ya Like,” where Logic goes over a sample from Adele and Childish Gambino. Logic ends the mixtape with “World Wide,” a reflection of his success thus far. In “World Wide,” the chorus is a compilation of fans sentiments towards the self-made rapper.

Overall, this mixtape is eclectic and well crafted. Every song will suite someones style. I look forward to seeing his next project, but for now this is a must download project.
